Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP): is a treatment used for some common orthopedic conditions. PRP is a concentration of platelet cells taken from your blood. Containing growth factors that may help in the healing process of injuries, these platelets are your own and not a foreign substance. The growth factors contained in your platelets are chemicals that signal the body to initiate a healing process. Injecting PRP into areas of an injury stimulates and optimizes your body's ability to heal the injury.

PRP has been used in operating rooms for several decades to encourage the formation of bone in spinal fusion surgery and to help heal wounds. PRP is also used in outpatient settings for treatment of common overuse conditions including: Achilles Tendonitis, Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, Tennis Elbow, and Patellar Tendonitis. Patients in our office have also received pain relief and aesthetic results in treating hypertrophic scars.

PRP is one course of treatment in your pain management and approach to comprehensive health. Dr. Colvin and his staff will specifically tailor the appropriate course of treatment to your individual needs.
